How to decorate your bedroom

Make your bedroom the ultimate comfy retreat. Here are our design consultants’ top 10 decorating tips.

1. Stack on the pillows: Pillows are a great way of making the head of your bed the focal point of your room. Feel free to experiment with pillows of different shapes, sizes, patterns and prints to give your bedroom a really personal touch.

2. DIY artwork: Hanging a quilt is on a blank wall is a quick and easy styling solution. If placed behind the head of your bed, it can complement and enhance your focal point.

3. Prints charming: A beautifully printed bedspread will stand out and give your room some flair.

4. Get a comfy chair: Place a chair into a corner of the room to create an instant resting spot and make the space feel cosy.

5. Make the most of the wall space: Nightstands and adjustable lamps affixed to walls are a great way to add a personal touch to your bedroom without taking up precious space.

6. Look down: A bright rug by the bed is a great way to inject some personal style and colour into a subtly decorated room.

7. Layer with colour: You want your room to reflect your personal style, so feel free to saturate it with your favourite colour. However, try using a variety of tones and textures to give it a layered feel or introduce ‘pops’ of colour throughout the room.

8. Turn photos into art: Make the most personal space in your home even more personal by transforming your favourite family photos into artwork. If you are on a budget, this is a great way to decorate in a unique way without breaking the bank.

9. Keep scale in mind: It might be tempting to buy the biggest bed possible to make your bedroom the ultimate haven for rest, but doing this in a small space will only make your bedroom feel cramped. If space is an issue, or if you want the room to feel bigger than it is, choose a bed without a footboard or a storage bed.

10. Experiment with offbeat pieces: For example, an old bench in an eye-catching colour. This can create an eclectic look and differentiate the most personal room in your home. However, remember to stick with your chosen theme throughout the entire decorating process and avoid cluttering your bedroom.
