Tips on how to create the perfect nursery for your newborn

Decorating your baby's nursery doesn't have to cost a fortune. With a touch of creativity, you can create a wonderful space in your loft for your little one. Get started with these 10 practical and budget-friendly ideas:

1. Get creative with wallpaper: Wallpaper is a great and simple way to add a style to a nursery quickly. Opt for a classic and modern pattern over one that’s baby-oriented and achieve a look that will last for years.

2. Story book prints: A selection of your favourite children’s books can easily be transformed into wall art when displayed in frames. The display will add some charm to the space, and the frames don't have to be expensive. A row of framed book covers or even pages from books can also be interactive for a child as he or she learns to read.

3. Pick an interactive theme: We’ve come across some really special themes. Our favourite would have to be the Harry Potter nursery, but there are other pop culture-inspired themes you can implement in your nursery.

4. Be careful with colour: Decorate your little one’s nursery with softer and less ‘confusing’ tones, for example light blues and pinks.

5. ABC: Use fabric strips and card to create letters from the alphabet for your little learner. You can even get the siblings involved in this one!

6. Maintenance: Ensure that everything in the nursery is washable and durable.

7. Install a dimmer: This is an inexpensive way to change the mood when reading a bedtime story and it can also help you reduce your energy bills.

8. Sneak in storage: Clothes storage racks don’t take up much space at all and they are perfect for storing lotions and toys.

9. Choose adaptable furniture: Rather than choosing furniture specifically with babies in mind, opt for furniture that will be useful in the long term. As any parent will tell you, babies grow at an alarming rate, so purchasing a larger cot that will accommodate your little one up until they are ready to sleep in a bed, for example, will save you precious pounds.

10. Play it safe: If you don't know wether the nursery will be home to a baby boy or girl, play it safe with a neutral background and add brighter colours later on.

We hope that this has given you some great inspiration for your nursery. If you implement any of these tips, please send us some photos!
