When Ian and Aimee bought their terraced property in North London, they knew that the existing loft conversion, dating back to the 80s, un-insulated and with single glaze windows, needed a complete overhaul to make it liveable. As well as refurbishing the loft to make it a top floor haven for guests, they wanted to add another bedroom to their three-bed property. As the spiral staircase up to the loft consumed a lot of floor space on the middle floor, the removal of the staircase would make this possible.
Ian discovered Landmark online, finding a series of positive reviews and recommendations with Google. The couple chose Landmark Lofts based on this glowing feedback and the strength of the design consultant, Eddie, saying that he was ‘really helpful, knowledgeable, and went out of his way to help us in terms of next steps and options.’
In terms of what they envisioned, it was vital that the refurbished bedroom was bright, airy, and provided access onto the terrace. An en-suite, ample sized bathroom with full head clearance was another requirement.
Ian explains that:
“Both our families live outside London so it’s important for us that they had somewhere to stay, so they can visit their granddaughter.”
Our professionals worked closely with Ian and Aimee to come up with a design that would realise their vision. Once the architectural plans were agreed upon, the first step was to demolish the existing loft so a new one could be built from scratch. The couple were particularly happy with the build team we assigned to the project, telling us that they were always on time and working to schedule.
Before Ian and Aimee contacted Landmark Lofts, their original loft conversion was outdated and un-insulated, described by the couple as ‘un-usable’. We have helped them transform their loft into a bright, modern guest bedroom and a spacious fully equipped bathroom. As lighting was a key consideration, the terrace facing wall was fitted with a set of glass double doors and full length windows. The bathroom is fitted with two Velux windows, and features a wide doorway which allows light into the bedroom from both sides of the house.
We also removed the original staircase and Ian and Aimee took up our suggestion to add a skylight to the new stairway to ensure every part of their newly converted loft was as bright as possible. With the old staircase gone, we were able to help the couple convert their home into a four bedroom house, giving them the scope to set a room aside for guests whilst growing their family.
The couple are delighted with the quality of our work, inviting their parents, neighbours and family friends over to look at and stay in their brand new loft conversion. They were also impressed with the ease of making payments via our mobile app. Overall, Ian says he would definitely recommend Landmark Lofts to anyone considering a loft conversion.
“We’re very happy with the outcome. We love the room, we love the light that comes through. The quality of it is first rate. I can’t complain in the slightest.”
