Carole had been thinking about improving her home for quite some time before she engaged Landmark Lofts to build her new loft. Although there were enough bedrooms for her, her husband and their two sons, there wasn’t much space for visiting relatives or her son’s university friends. She was also keen to add a second bathroom to their property.
An added motivation to improve their house was to boost its value. “It’s a great area to live in, it’s so accessible to everything.” She explained, and she fully intends to stay in her home until retirement and beyond, making their loft conversion a long-term investment.
Carole first heard about us as we sponsored her son’s primary school fairs for a number of years. Later, one of her neighbours chose Landmark for their loft conversion and Carole was able to see the results first-hand.
As her house has quite a generous floor-plan, we were able to design Carole a loft with two double bedrooms and a separate bathroom at the top of the stairs. Although she was somewhat apprehensive about having such a major project taking place in her home while her family continued to live there, her first meeting with the build team and our project manager set her mind at ease. Right from the start they made a great impression.
Carole soon developed an excellent relationship with Chris, the build-team’s site manager, and found the team very flexible and proactive with fixing any problems that arose. She appreciated their consultative approach, keeping her well informed every step of the way, and she told us they had an excellent work ethic. “They were here bang on 8 O’clock every morning, whereas a friend of mine had builders which didn’t turn up for days on end!” As a conventionally built loft, the build took six weeks. However, given the amount of work involved and the quality of the finish, Carole was delighted. “It was amazing how quick it was.” She said.
Carole told us that the benefits of having two extra bedrooms and an added bathroom have been immediate. With a double bed in one room and a double sofa-bed in another, she’s able to host relatives and their children in separate rooms, and within weeks of her loft project’s completion she has already had a number of visitors.
However, her loft conversion isn’t just great for people staying over. The front room gives her sons somewhere to relax without taking over the living room, and in the other bedroom, she’s added a desk and uses it as a quiet space to work from home. Carole is even considering renting the rooms out to English language students on a short term basis. Not only has her loft increased her home’s value, it has opened up some new possibilities too!
The new space gave Carole an opportunity to indulge in some interior design and arts and crafts. She designed her own curtains and cushion covers as well as giving her young nieces the chance to help her pick out furnishings. “I said I’d give my niece £2.50 for everything I bought off her list... £20 later I thought, maybe this wasn’t such a good idea!” Overall, Carole’s delighted with her loft conversion, and would happily recommend Landmark to others.
