A growing house for a growing family | Landmark Lofts

Making more room for a growing family

Tom and his wife Victoria had been happily living in their compact two bedroom house in Wimbledon with their lovely little daughter. But with Victoria expecting their second child, things started to look a little cramped. We had a chat with Tom and asked him about his experience with Landmark Lofts and why he chose us to manage their loft conversion.

LL:

So what was the main reason for your decision to get a loft conversion?

Tom:

There were a few reasons, the main one being our growing family. Also we wanted somewhere for friends & family to stay when they come to visit. And it's nice to know that there's an increase in house value should we ever come to sell.

LL:

Was moving house ever an option?

Tom:

We really wanted to stay in the house that we loved but it wasn't quite the house that we wanted. After weighing up the pros & cons of moving and doing the work, we decided to make the house that we loved into the house that we could stay in longer term.

LL:

How did you go about deciding finding a team you were happy to work with?

Tom:

It was really important that both of us did our due diligence in our research. We looked at a building company very close to where we live in Wimbledon, we also had a recommendation.

We actually found Landmark Lofts online, checked out the website and were impressed with what we saw. It was absolutely crucial that we saw previous work that Landmark had undertaken, perhaps even more importantly speaking to real people, actual customers who'd had previous experience with Landmark.

LL:

So was that the main reason you decided to go ahead with us for your loft conversion?

Tom:

That and accreditation were really important factors, but the real deciding factor was knowing that the work being done was protected by guarantees that are underwritten for 10 years. It was really reassuring to know that no matter what happens we're covered. For us it was an absolute no brainer as nobody else could give us those types of assurances.

LL:

What about the project itself, how did that go?

Tom:

Tom & Andrew [the Build Managers] went through the schedule with us to outline what was going to be happening week by week. We had a really clear idea of exactly what parts of the build were happening when, and the kind of allowances we might need to make in terms of things like dust and when things were arriving.

It really gave us a clear idea as to what to expect so nothing came as a surprise, we had a good end date in mind which was met without any delay.

LL:

How about the rest of the team, how was your overall experience?

Tom:

We were really pleased with the level of service that we had through-out the whole process. From the first moment we met Roza when she came and gave us ideas about the kind of things we could achieve, all the way through to the finished project.

Having people from Landmark come in to ensure that work was completed as we would've expected and to make sure that any elements that needed fixing were dealt with speedily was reassuring. The team were always happy to come back and sort those little things out.

LL:

That's great to hear. Now you've been through the whole process are there any words of advice you'd give to someone considering getting a loft conversion?

Tom:

I'd say definitely plan for a contingency budget. Speak to the design consultants, and everyone involved within the business at length and ask lots & lots of questions. There's no such thing as a stupid question when it comes to undertaking work of this scale.

LL:

That's great advice, people should always ask questions, it's the only way to be sure you end up with the loft conversion that you want. So how do you feel about your home now all the work is done?

Tom:

We've been really pleased with the final result. We've got a fantastic new double bedroom with en-suite bathroom which is now my bathroom - so we've a bathroom each! It's a really great use of the space that we've got, and it's the reason that we're staying here and not moving elsewhere.
